Brendan Rodgers has issued a stark reminder that Celtic's convincing defeat of Kilmarnock this afternoon could spell bad news for fan favourite Scott Brown.

Trailing table-topping Kilmarnock going into today's clash at Park Head, a memorable 5-1 win put Celtic right back on top of the Scottish Premiership with a two-game buffer.

Finally looking to have clicked into gear after a relatively shaky start, Rodgers is wary of unnecessary tweaks.

"I have compassion for players who aren’t playing, especially those that have been amazing for me," Rodgers commented in his post-match remarks.

"But what I don’t have is sentimentality. It’s clear that the level and the fluency of the team is there right now.

"I have that compassion for players but my job is to win games and win titles. McGregor, Ryan Christie, along with Tom Rogic, have been sensational in how they’ve played."

Absent recently has been the hitherto talismanic figure of Scott Brown. A player who repeatedly has demonstrated his occasionally overflowing passion for Celtic, the former Liverpool manager isn't convinced that will be enough to disrupt the current harmony of his team.

"Does it give me a selection headache ahead of Thursday? Not really," Rodgers admitted.

"I will sit down with my staff and have a look at it. I know what Scott and Oliver Ntcham can do – but I know what the others can do too.

"I’ll pick a team to get a result."

Undoubtedly keen to reassert his role in the centre of Celtic's midfield, it seems like Scott Brown will have a battle on his hands.
