After scoring his first goal for Bristol City in a 4-1 League Cup win against Crystal Palace during the week, Callum O'Dowda followed it up by setting up both goals in his side's victory against Sunderland on Saturday.

The first came from a corner, headed in by Bobby Reid after 28 minutes.

The winner - Lewis Grabban had equalised for Sunderland in first half injury time - arrived in the 73rd minute. After being played into space down the left, O'Dowda easily beat the Sunderland fullback and then sent a perfect cross onto the head of Milan Djuric.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson, speaking to the Bristol Post, was delighted with the Irish international's performance.

Yeah, it’s brilliant. Obviously Callum O’Dowda - as far as work rate and energy - has been brilliant since he’s been here.

But he’s been a bit frustrated by his lack of end product and to score midweek and to set up two today – he’ll be delighted with that.

It’s something that we’ve worked on since the Burton game. Getting crosses in. We call that one the ‘come and head me in’ ball and it was almost like watching 20 years ago when Duncan Ferguson used to steam in at the far post.

Encouragingly for his chances of featuring in the playoff against Denmark, Roy Keane was present at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon to see O'Dowda's performance in person.
