There was a dramatic finish to the Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final as UCC overcame DCU in extra-time thanks to a last-gasp penalty.
The 2013 Champions scored a last-minute penalty thanks to Chris O'Leary to earn a tight 2-17 to 0-22 victory. "We were blessed to get a penalty at the end," said a delighted Conor Browne after the game. "What a way to win it!"
In the end, a long ball into the square resulted in a penalty. Paudie Foley was shown a yellow card and O'Leary's effort just fell over the line.
The Kilkenny man was one of the stand-out performers throughout the game. It took a James Bergin free to pull DCU level after normal time and force the extra period but from then on the Dublin outfit looked the superior side.
The result will come as a particularly sweet one for Cork inter-county star Darragh Fitzgibbon. Despite losing an All-Ireland club final with Charleville on Sunday, the midfielder came on at half-time and helped his college back to an Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup final.
Speaking on the game's official YouTube feed, Derek McGrath couldn't help but be delighted with proceedings.
It is just a pure mixture of emotions. A real contrast. You couldn't say that UCC absolutely deserved it because DCU probably dominated the extra-time. But UCC got that crucial stroke of luck that you need at times, Chris O'Leary took the chance. A great spectacle and a great advertisement for the game in general.
