Former Meath minor and Leinster rugby U18 Conor Nash is set for his AFL debut with Hawthorn this week as they prepare to play against the Geelong Cats.

Nash signed for Hawthorn in 2016. The club first reached out to him when he was just 15 and he eventually joined after completing his leaving cert. The Meath man overcame an early hamstring injury to become a revelation in the VFL with the Box Hill Hawks and is now set to become just the second ever Irishman to represent the club in the AFL.

Last week, Nash spoke to Balls.ie and spoke of his hope that he would be soon called up after his VFL form: "I’d love to get in the AFL in the next few games… I’ve been playing good footy all year so it has been a bit frustrating, but you just have to try keep going." He will now get his just reward.

During their squad announcement, Hawthorn elected for an unconventional method of revealing to Nash he was set for his debut.
