With rain forecast throughout the weekend and temperatures set to return to somewhat normal, there is no better time to return indoors and begin to feast on all the sport that is on offer this weekend. Once you've settled down on the couch after a long week, take a look at our guide to this absolutely jam-packed weekend of sport.

We have created your essential guide to a superb weekend of sport, with three massive Premier League derby's and plenty of Irish involvement at the European Indoor Athletics Championships. It all kicks off in a few hours in Glasgow.

Friday

European Indoor Athletics Championships, RTE 2, 6.30pm - 10.05pm

Ireland's Ciara Mageean is scheduled to run in heat two of 1500m at 19.20 this evening. At 20.44 Ireland's fastest woman Phil Healy is scheduled to run in the second heat of the 400m semi-finals.

Leinster vs Cheetahs, Pro 14, Eir Sport 1, 7.35pm

Leinster face off against the Cheetahs this evening at the RDS, with Leinster streets ahead on top of conference B, they will be looking to further strengthen that lead against their South African opponents tonight.

Saturday

Chiefs v Sunwolves & Reds v Crusaders Super Rugby, Sky Sports Action, 6.30am

If you're the sort who likes to get up early on a weekend morning and plonk themselves on the couch for the day then your in for a treat, with a double helping of Super Rugby to wet your appetite for the day ahead.

 

European Indoor Athletics Championships, BBC 2, 9.30am - 1pm, RTÉ 2, 6pm-9.20pm

More Irish involvement to look forward to in Glasgow, with Joseph Ojewumi set to run in the heats of the men's 60m at 10.25. Ciara Neville, Lauren Roy and Molly Scott will compete in the heats of womens 60m, which begin at 11.13. Live coverage of the evening events will be on RTE 2 later that evening, with highlights of all the Irish action from earlier in the day.

Tottenham v Arsenal, Premier League, BT Sport 1, 11.45am

After Tottenham suffering a poor run of form and now only four points separating the fierce rivals, this match should be action packed as the race for Champions League football next season hots up.

Connacht v Ospreys & Scarlets v Munster, Pro 14, TG4, 2.25pm

Another double helping of rugby to get over that mid day slump. Connacht host Ospreys at the Sportsground, while Munster take on Scarlets straight off, with kick-off in that one at 5.00pm.

Hibernian v Celtic, Scottish Cup quarter-finals, Eir Sport 2, 5.15pm

Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon returns to face his former side, in which will be his first visit to Easter Road since leaving the club under controversial circumstances just over a month ago.

West Ham v Newcastle United, Premier League, Sky Sports Premier League, 5.30pm

Rafa Benitez's side will be looking to further tighten their grip on Premier League survival, with a win in east London.

Two big fights to look forward to on this card, with Belfast's Tommy McCarthy looking to secure the vacant WBA Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title, while Jordan Gill attempts to propel his career by claiming the vacant WBA International Featherweight belt.

Mayo v Galway, National Football League, Eir Sport 1, 7.15pm

Galway will be looking for a big scalp when they travel to Castlebar on Saturday evening, as Mayo attempt to try to bounce back from last weekend's drubbing by Dublin.

Donegal v Armagh, National Football League, Eir Sport 2, 7.15pm

With both sides languishing in mid table of Division 2, Saturday evening's clash in Ballybofey will be a big chance for one side to push on for promotion as the league enters its final few weeks.

Real Madrid v Barcelona, La Liga, Eleven Sports, 7.45pm

Perhaps the highlight of Saturday, Real and Barca go head-to-head only three days after their last clash. While Barca came out on top on Wednesday night, look for Real to try and garner some semblance of revenge at the Bernabéu.

Sunday

Jones v Smith, UFC 235, BT Sport 2, 3am

The ever controversial Jon Jones returns to the octagon just two months after reclaiming his lightweight title, facing off against MMA veteran Anthony Smith. On the undercard, Tyron Woodley defends his welterweight crown against Kamaru Usman.

European Indoor Athletic Championship, BBC 2, 10am - 1pm, RTÉ 2, 6pm

The final day of the European Indoor Athletic Championship begins early Sunday morning and hopefully we have some Irish athletes to cheer on.

Watford v Leicester City, Fulham v Chelsea & Everton v Liverpool, Premier League, Sky Sports Premier League, 11.30am

Brendan Rodgers return to the Premier League kicks off a big day of Premier League football from 12.00pm. Scott Parker begins his tenure as Fulham caretaker manager, taking on his former club Chelsea in the battle of Notting Hill from 2.05pm. Then the Merseyside derby rounds off the Premier League weekend, with Liverpool heading to Goodison looking to continue their push for the title.

Roscommon v Dublin, National Football League, TG4, 2.00pm

Dublin have lost both of their games on the road so far this year. Roscommon will be hoping to continue that trend at Dr. Hyde Park on Sunday.

Kerry v Monaghan, National Football League, TG4, deferred coverage

Kerry will be looking to make it five wins from five when they host bottom side Monaghan. Coverage for this one should begin once the Roscommon Dublin match finishes up.

Cork v Tipperary, National Hurling League, TG4, deferred coverage

Cork will have their tails up after beating Limerick last time out, with Division 1 of the hurling league finely poised, this match could lead to an intriguing final round of fixtures.

Napoli v Juventus, Serie A, Eir Sport 2, 7.30pm

A top of the table clash from Serie A to round up your live sport viewing for the weekend. Saying that a victory for second placed Napoli would only close the gap to ten, as Juventus try and secure their eighth title in a row.

League Sunday, GAA, RTÉ 2, 9.30pm

Highlights from another blockbuster weekend of action from both the Football and Hurling leagues.

All in all a great excuse to sit in front of the telly and watch some great sport.
