A generation-defining series. From 1 April 1995 until 1 May 1998 the critically acclaimed Father Ted aired on Channel 4. It provided a comedic style and references that remain relevant to this day and now, it is set for another installment.

Since its ending, cult fans have repeatedly wondered 'is there anything to be said for another episode?' Yet it did endure in the form of countless repeats and there was a general acceptance that we'd had our fun and that was all that mattered. Now the original writers Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan have confirmed they are working on a musical stage production of the series. Linehan confirmed it is 'the real final episode.'

Some might say it is nearly as mad as that thing you told me about the loaves and the fishes, but the idea of a musical was first suggested by Linehan back in 2015. He had stressed it may be small and far away.  Since then it has referenced in several interviews until now when he confirmed it is in the works. Linehan elected to overlook the one-word title, even though there can't be too many of them (other than Salem's Lot.) The Divine Comedy frontman Neil Hannon, who wrote the original show's music, is also working on the project.

Details remain vague and no one really knows what it’s about. A large venue will certainly be required as, while we are no good at judging the size of crowds, it is estimated about seventeen million fans will turn up there.

There you have it lads, it has risen from the dead. Like that feller.... E.T.
