You'd think, by the reaction of his fellow competitors, that the Mexican cross-country skier German Madrazo had just claimed an unlikely gold-medal at the Winter Olympics event.

Hoisted aloft and paraded with his nation's flag waving, the Mexican had in fact come in dead last; a good 26 minutes behind the winning skier Dario Cologna from Switzerland.

No doubt a grueling event, Madrazo, despite bringing up the rear, came to the finishing line with a smile on his face.

In a Winter Olympic games that have captured the imagination for a number of reasons, this scene of his fellow competitors celebrating Madrazo's finish is oddly beautiful.
