2018 was a superlative year for Irish rugby, and the winter has seen the tumbling forth of oodles of individual awards: World Rugby voted Johnny Sexton and Joe Schmidt as the best player and coach in the world respectively, while the men's Team of the Year award went to Ireland, too.

The latest honours come from Rugby World magazine, with four Irishmen included in their team of the year. Sexton is there at out-half, as is his scrum-half Conor Murray. Peter O'Mahony makes the cut after his remarkable performance against the All-Blacks, while Tadhg Furlong appears in the front row.

Given he lost just two games of rugby all year, James Ryan can feel somewhat aggrieved not to have made the cut, although there is considerable talent ahead of him - Leone Nakarawa of Fiji and the All Blacks' Brodie Retallick.

New Zealand are the best-represented with five - Beauden Barrett is crowbarred in at full-back - with England third with two players. Wales, Fiji, South Africa and Australia all have a player each.

The side was picked from a panel of experts from 12 different countries.

Here's the team in full:
