Davicia Patterson took a massive 0.31 seconds off her own Irish U20 400m record in Geneva on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Belfast athlete ran 52.57 as she won the B-race. Her previous best had been run nearly a year ago in Mannheim.

Patterson is now the fifth fastest Irish woman ever over 400m.

The run also makes her the fastest U20 in Europe this season. The second best time, by Great Britain's Amber Anning, was also run yesterday in Geneva. Patterson ranks as the 16th fastest in the world this year.

Patterson's time bodes well with the European U20 Championships taking place in Sweden next month.
