Last night, Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, sent out a video message, via Instagram, to the younger brother of Mayo AFL players Pearce and Cian Hanley.

15-year-old Tommy Hanley is currently battling cancer. The Rock implored Tommy to keep his strength up in his fight with the illness.

There's always a lot of good things that happen when I come off the road at the end of the year like now. I get a chance to see my family and I also get a chance to see these requests that come in.

One of the requests is for a kid named Tommy Hanley. Tommy, you're 15-years-old, you're in Ireland, you're a massive fan of mine. I appreciate that, I think it's so cool, it's so inspiring.

I also hear that you have stage four cancer and you're in the fight of your life. I'm told that I've got to remind you to eat. You've got to eat, buddy, to give you that strength. You've got to rest to give you that strength.

I'm told that you've got family coming in from Miami, Brisbane, London for the holidays. I was also told that at 11 months old, you were a foster child and this family took you in and just last week you wanted to change your name from O'Connor to Hanley in honour of this family, in honour of your family.

I'm pulling for you man and I appreciate you being a fan.

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas, Tommy. Stay strong.

On Facebook, Pearce Hanley thanked the Rock for the message.

This is so incredible and cannot thank The Rock enough and to Andrias for organising.. With inspiration like this couldn't be more confident in my little bro fighting the fight.. Cannot wait to see you in a few days Tommy boy.. Love ya

After nearly a decade with Brisbane Lions, Pearce Hanley recently made the move south to the Gold Coast Suns. The club has given Hanley an extended break to spend time with his brother.

The club’s been good. They have given me a few days either side of the break to have an extended break and spend some time with the family because obviously everything is not 100 per cent back home.

But (Tommy) is doing fine. It’s pretty recent ... very recent actually but it hasn’t been too hard.

Cian Hanley, brother of Pearce and Tommy, is also an AFL player with Brisbane Lions and will also return home this Christmas to see his sibling.

Here's The Rock's message to Tommy Hanley.
