Renowned boxing coach Freddie Roach says he was asked to train Conor McGregor.

Roach has coached well-known boxers such as Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. In the past he has also worked with legendary UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre.

Speaking to SecondsOut.com, Roach said there was no mention of Floyd Mayweather as a possible opponent for McGregor. He actually dismissed the idea of the two fighting as ridiculous.

They did ask me about training him. No [talk of Mayweather], just to train him. I said 'sure, bring him down.' I'd like to see [him], meet the guy and see what he has. He seems like a nice kid.

Roach did not believe he would be able to bring McGregor's boxing skills to a level where he would be able to compete in the ring.

No [I don't know if I could do that], I don't even know what level he's at right now. I couldn't say that without working with him. He looks like a good kickboxer. That's all I've seen of him. But as a boxer, I've never seen him box before so I really don't know.

While talking to Fight Hub TV, Roach added:

[Laughing] I'd have to train him for at least three years to get him ready for Mayweather. He's a little green. He's good at MMA but boxing, I don't know.

Let's face it, if you fight boxing rules the boxer will win. If you fight MMA rules, the MMA fighter will win. They're two totally different sports.
