Irish boxer Jason Quigley is through to the final of the AIBA World Boxing Championships after his victory over Russia's Artem Chebotarev this morning.

The Donegal man will become the first ever Irishman to win a gold or silver medal at the World Amateur Boxing Championships, depending on how he gets on against Kazakhstan's Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in tomorrow's final.

However, there was disappointment for Joe Ward as he was out-classed by Cuba's Julio De La Cruz-Peraza. Peraza was too quick for the 19-year-old from Westmeath, who can still hold his head up high as he takes home a bronze medal.
