Irish boxer Michael O'Reilly was named as the Irish boxer who allegedly failed a pre-Olympics drugs test.
O'Reilly can have his B sample tested, but it has emerged that the Clonmel-born boxer will not make that request. That would suggest that he will be accepting his ban - but he is taking his case straight to an appeal.
Per Vincent Hogan, his possible grounds for an appeal could boil down to having inadvertently consumed a contaminated substance that had been tampered with, or consuming a banned substance through "no fault or negligence" on his part.
The appeal will be heard by the Irish Sports Anti-Doping disciplinary panel in Dublin. O'Reilly has until Friday before he is due to fight to hear a result, and perhaps this route will speed up the process compared to waiting for a B sample to be tested.
The boxer has been segregated from Team Ireland at the Olympic Village until this saga is over, but will face a battle to clear his name in time.
