Promising Irish Boxer McKenna Lands Brutal First Round KO In American Showdown
By Maurice Brosnan

Monaghan man Stevie McKenna wasted little time in progressing to 2-0 as he floored Keasen Freeman in the opening round of their contest at the Hangar in Costa Mesa, California.

The lightweight appeared on a Roy Englebrecht card had his journeyman foe on the canvas twice thanks to brutal body shots before finally finishing the bout.

McKenna is following in the footsteps of younger brother Aaron, an Irish boxing prodigy who has already collected seven wins at welterweight in the paid ranks. Stevie boasts an immense amateur record and has already sparred with three-weight world champion and the world's pound-for-pound best Vasyl Lomachenko.

His victory comes a year after Aaron also defeated Freeman within a round.
