The pesky barrier seems to be one of professional cyclists' most dangerous natural enemies, as the Rabo-Liv squad found out at the World Road Championships.
The Dutch team were in the medal positions heading into the final kilometres of the race when Annemiek van Vleuten collided with the crowd control barrier and brought her teammates down. As soon as she made contact with the railing her bike was released from her grip and took flight in impressive fashion.

Her teammate Anna van der Breggen came off the worst and was forced to retire from the race with a fractured pelvis after the gruesome crash.
