It has been a breathless week in the seemingly eternal tale of Lance Armstrong. Barrels of ink have been spilled, keyboards have been battered to breaking point and some very high-profile writers have had to drastically retreat.

Lets start with Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger and lets hop back just five months ago to when Lance announced he would no longer contest the colossal charges of cheating that were facing him. Buzz still believed.

And now for the back-tracking. Buzz has gone on the offensive. On Friday we had this. You're over Lance.

But then at least Buzz gives you the impression he's angry and that he would have no issues with verbally abusing Lance in person if he ever got the chance. Rick Reilly of ESPN gives you the impression he's been silently weeping to himself while cradling his yellow wristband. "Riles" has been betrayed and it puts the trials and tribulations of Betsy Andreu, Emma O'Reilly and David Walsh into perspective.
