Cyclists Vicente de Mateus and Enrico Rossi showed why they should never enter the Octagon during the sixth stage of the Volta a Portugal. After a heated verbal exchange, things escalated very quickly.

The racers began swinging for the fences, trying to land bombs on each other but unfortunately their striking skills left a lot to be desired. One can only wonder why two athletes who presumably have supernatural lower body strength didn't showcase their kickboxing skills and try to land a few leg kicks during the altercation.

Rossi explained how he came to blows with his fellow competitor.

I was going over the line and then he ran into me, so we overturned. Then he stood and shouted at me so I hit him.

Seems like as good a reason as any to instigate a brawl.
