Nike's Marty McFly Shoes Raise Unbelievable Amount Of Money For Charity

There was a ridiculous buzz around Nike's 'Back To The Future' inspired self-lacing runners that have been released in very, very limited edition.

Some thought they were going on general sale for extortionate fees, when in fact the release of the shoe, where pairs were raffled off in conjunction with the Michael J. Fox Foundation, has raised a truly incredible amount of money to aid in the battle against Parkinsons' Disease.

Nike also released just three pairs to be sold at auction, and the frenzy around the scarcely available shoes was clear to be seen as the first two pairs sold for $105,000 in Hong Kong, and $56,800 in London, with the third pair to go to auction in November.

In addition to this, Nike made 86 pairs available in a raffle, where anyone who wanted a pair was asked to buy a $10 ticket either via Nike.com or through the Nike+ app, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation as was explained by Nike's PR team.

The majority of these will be available to residents of the United States and Canada through a digital draw process. Entrance to The Draw is via nike.com/mag or via the Nike+ App, with each entry granting equal opportunity to win a pair of the Nike Mag. Tickets are $10 donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. There is no limit to the amount of tickets that can be obtained per individual — the more tickets, the greater chance of winning. The Draw will begin on October 4, 2016 and end October 11, 2016. Winners will be notified October 17, 2016.

Nike have since picked and notified the winners, and the Michael J. Fox foundation has revealed that an incredible $6.75m has been raised for the charity through the raffle.

That's outstanding, and Michael J. Fox himself was obviously delighted at the news:

Thanks to Nike, we've raised a boatload of money for research and we've had a ton of fun doing it.

Firstly, it's remarkable how sought-after these shoes proved to be, as that is a ridiculous amount of entries into the raffle, but you've got to appreciate Nike's decision to donate the raffle tickets to charity.

That's an outstanding gesture, one that will go a long way, and everybody wins.
