Former Derry City striker Rory Patterson launched a volley of abuse on Twitter at Irish Sun chief Sports Writer Neil O'Riordan last night. Patterson - who signed for Australian club Cockburn City last week after his contract was terminated by Derry in January - took far, far too much notice of a very gentle tweet from O'Riordan about Derry's replacement for him and well, it all got a little out of hand.

Patterson, to the best of our knowledge doesn't follow O'Riordan on twitter, so he was either searching for himself or someone passed on the tweet.
Either way - that escalated quickly.
