Ahead of Crystal Palace's victory over Liverpool at the weekend, Mark Bright spoke to a cult hero in Irish football - Clinton Morrison.

Along with talking about his love for Crystal Palace, Clinton spoke about a little episode back in 2001. Morrison gave Michael Owen a piece of advice after the Liverpool player had missed some scorable chances in a 2-1 League Cup semi-final win for Palace against Liverpool.

Here's what the Irish international said:

I was looking at all the opportunities Owen had and wishing I could have had some of them. I would have put at least two of them away.

I don't think Owen has been the same since his injury problems. He is just a bit low on confidence at the moment.

All I can say to him is to keep your head down, work hard and hit the target. You will score goals eventually.

Talking about his words of encouragement for Owen to Mark Bright, Morrison explained how it came back to bite him in the arse.

We beat them 2-1 and silly Clinton did an interview and you know when your words get twisted about 'I could teach someone like Michael Owen how to score'.

It did come off all flat in my face, because then we went to Anfield and lost 5-0 and [I] did an airshot in front of The Kop. And Gary Mcallister who was a great midfielder came up to me and went 'You know what, Michael Owen would've scored that' and gave me wink.

Then I knew 'Oh Clinton, you haven't arrived yet mate'. You've just got to be careful what you say in the paper but you know, you learn when you're younger, you learn these things.
