It wasn't to be. It may well have been the best goal but we all knew that it would come down to the voting and in the end it's James Rodriguez who has pipped Stephanie Roche to the Puskas Award. Yes, it's very disappointing but nonetheless she's done an incredible job of getting there and shouldering all the media attention.

That's 1.1 million votes for Roche. Fair to say this hasn't just been an Irish 'get behind our girl thing'. Either way she's done us proud, so thanks Stephanie and we'll look forward to following your career from here.
