Paul Cook Wants Clubs To Shut Up About Eoin Doyle As Speculation Intensifies

Paul Cook looks to be on the verge of losing his top scorer but that doesn't mean he's going to do so without putting up a fight. The former Sligo Rovers and current Chesterfield boss is well aware that there's quite a few clubs that would like to take Eoin Doyle of his hands and he's less than keen on hearing fellow managers confirm that fact.

I don't understand why clubs conduct themselves in the media. I don't think it's correct.

At any club today, a player has a price. So if you want to meet a price to buy a player, then go and do it and do it properly and then announce it to the media.

Cook was most likely referring to Rotherham assistant manager Paul Raynor, who confirmed that his side are one of a rumoured nine clubs said to be interested in the Dubliner.

Cook went on to say that although he is attempting to distance himself from the speculation surrounding the top scorer in English football, there is a chance that something could happen in this transfer window with a price tag around the £2 million mark being suggested for the man who has scored 22 goals in all competitions so far this season.

I can't get involved in all kinds of speculation, that's for other people to do.

I think the best thing for us to do is that from now if we have something to announce then we will, and if we don't, we will be quite happy to do that too.

Although Doyle is sure to have plenty of offers from Championship sides such as Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall, one of the more interesting prospects could see the former Hibernian striker head back to Scotland with Celtic. Reports in Scotland are suggesting that Ronnie Deila is hoping to snag Doyle for £1.5 million to reignite his lacklustre forward line.
