It's been a bad week for Liverpool fans, but they'll no doubt be please to learn that their club are the best in England based on average finishing position since the start of the football league.

The Daily Mail are attempting to find out which English football club are the 'biggest' and this table is just one of the areas that they hope will help them to come to a definitive answer. Having not finished outside the top 8 in the premier division since 1962, Liverpool were always going to place highly despite not claiming top spot since the 89/90 season.

Arsenal are their closest challengers, and Manchester United have just snuck into the Champions League places behind Everton, who's presence in the top three may be a surprise to some.

Arsenal are breathing right down their necks, but and Chelsea will no doubt jump up the table should they win the league this year like everyone expects them to.
