Balls.ie was among the crowd as Roy and Nicky Butt settled down for an evening of craic and conversation. Here are some highlights:

On being sidetracked.

“There was one incident, I was in Sidetracks one night, I was walking across the dance floor, walking across now, not dancing, I can’t dance, a lad came across and punched me in the face. So I ended up fighting this fella and his buddy, we were fighting for a few minutes until eventually my brothers and a few friends stepped in. So I ended up going home that night, but all my shirt was ripped, so I got home and my Dad was still up, or actually I think he had just gotten in. So I walk in and all my shirt is ripped and I mean proper ripped now like someone had cut it with a scissors, my Dad looks up and says “Good night was it?” I said yeah actually. Par for the course.”

On rowing with McAteer against Sunderland:

“Jason is an idiot, he’s got a big mouth. I obviously knew him from Ireland but with that there, he started with nonsense about my book, he actually should have been booked for that tackle there. I’d have no time for him”

On Haaland:

“Obviously I got in trouble with the book but I never actually said, you see this is the problem when you get someone to write your book...I never said I went out to do him. I’ve gone on to the pitch many a time wanting to hurt a player but not injure a player. If I really wanted to injure Haaland, there are ways of doing that but I never would. All jokes aside I knew he’d be ok, it was a bad tackle, but he played three days later. I know the physio from Man City and I asked him afterwards and he said he’d be fine. “

On Ireland in the summer:

"I think they will do ok. I hope so anyway. You've got a bunch of lads there with good spirit who want to do well. The only thing you would say is in these tournaments you need to take care of the ball and we give it away too much, but hopefully they do well"
