Jamie McGrath will be leaving St Mirren in the weeks or months ahead, although his destination remains unknown up to this point.

The Irishman is out of contract this summer, meaning he is now free to negotiate a free transfer to other teams. Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City have been credited with an interest in the midfielder, although he won't be moving to Aberdeen.

The Scottish club were the ones most strongly linked with McGrath, reportedly making a contract offer that would have made him one of the club's highest paid players. However, they have pulled out of negotiations after it apparently became clear that the 25-year old was angling for a move to England.

This has resulted in a rather strange comment from Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass.

When questioned about the breakdown in negotiations, he seemed to suggest that McGrath could not handle the pressure of playing for Aberdeen.

Everybody we're looking at, we want players that want to come and play for Aberdeen, see the profile that we can give them, see what the club offers, and seeing a game like tomorrow night and wanting to be a part of it.

There is a pressure to be an Aberdeen player that is not for everybody.

We will get the right people in that can help us.

A gentle reminder that this is a full international, one who made his competitive debut in a qualifier away to Portugal and got an assist on the occasion.

McGrath has starred in the Scottish Premiership, meaning a move to another team in that division hardly would have fazed him. Instead, he seems to prefer a move to England which is understandable at this point in his career.

There is certainly a sense of sour grapes on behalf of the Aberdeen boss here.
