This is all but certain to be Jamie McGrath's last season at St Mirren, it just remains to be seen whether he will leave the Scottish Premiership club in January or on a free transfer in the summer.

The Ireland international has been in fantastic form over the last 18 months or so, shining at both club and international level.

With his contract expiring at the end of June, St Mirren have made him an offer that would make him the highest paid player in the club's history. However, the player has so far turned down his advances and seems keen for a new challenge.

Aberdeen have been the club most strongly linked. Stephen Glass' side have been credited with an interest in the Meath man for around 12 months, with many believing they were the front runners for his signature this summer having made a sizeable contract offer. However, the deal now appears to be off.

The Scotsman are reporting that Aberdeen have pulled out of negotiations for Jamie McGrath after the player stalled on making a decision due to interest from a number of English clubs.

It is believed that Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic are both keen on the player's signature, with St Mirren placing a price tag of £350,000 on the player if they want to purchase him this month.

Birmingham City are currently in 18th place in the Championship, nine points above the relegation zone. Wigan find themselves in fourth place in League One, although they are only four points behind table toppers Wycombe with a massive five games in hand.

A move down south certainly seems more likely for McGrath at this point, although it remains to be seen if that will come in the next few weeks or in the summer.

As he has proven over the last year or so, he certainly has the talent to thrive in the Championship.
