Xabi Alonso has become the latest footballer to be involved in a massive tax case, with Spanish authorities trying to put the former Liverpool midfielder away for five years amid allegations of fraud. But that didn't stop the World Cup winner from rolling back the years in Liverpool's legends game against Bayern Munich today.
Alonso stepped up in the 73rd minute to sweep home a free kick just outside the box past David James to give Bayern legends a 5-4 lead.
The former Bayern man had played for the Reds in the first half before switching teams in the second and his goal looked to have secured the win for the German side.
That was until Liverpool 'legend' Bjorn Tore Kvarme made sure that the spoils were shared in the 88th minute, hitting a sweet strike on the half volley to bring the final score to five goals apiece.
The other scorers in the match were Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Dirk Kuyt for Liverpool while Alexander Zickler, Luca Toni and Paolo Sergio got on the scoresheet for Bayern.
The match was organised to raise funds for the LFC foundation charity, a charity that aims to create life-changing opportunities for children and young people.
