Angel Di Maria Responds To Critics With Open Letter To Man United Fans

Some may call crocodile tears but Angel Di Maria has decided to try and turn the PR machine back in his favour by doing that now horribly clichéd thing of writing an open letter to his former club's fans. What happened to simply saying 'I'm delighted to see the back of you lot' and be done with it.

And if anyone was going to do that, Di Maria would be a good bet. The Argentine was thought to favour a move to PSG last summer but FFP put a halt to that. He ended up in Manchester and proceeded to play as if he was dreaming of Paris.

Now he's got the move he wanted and he was none too shy about letting Man United fans know where he was off to. However, he's still decided to go down the open letter route.

The letter, which was published via Guillem Balague, reads as follows;

I write this note to thank all the Manchester United family for the great support received during the year I've been part of this Club. When Manchester United chose me as part of their team I felt extremely honoured because I knew what this Club means and how it trusted me.

Nevertheless, I'm aware things didn't work as we all expected and believe me, I feel really sorry about it. However in the career of a football player sometimes the unexpected and unwanted may happen.

I can guarantee you it was not for trying. I did my best but football is not like maths: often a lot of things out of our control affect the way we feel and the way things turn out. I am sorry it did not work out as I would have wished in this amazing huge club.

I want to give special thanks to all the Directors and Management of Manchester United as well as to every member of the staff and colleagues as they gave me all their support. Also a special mention to all the fans who always trusted me and showed me their respect and love.

Now is time to move to PSG but the Glorious Manchester United Club will be forever in my memory!

Wish you all the best in the world.

With best regards,

Angel Di Maria

Well that's nice but many Man United fans would probably suggest that it would have been better for everyone involved if he'd just put that kind of feeling into his play on the field. Nonetheless, he's off now and we can only hope this horrible tradition of faux emotional letters to fans will come to an end soon.
