Gillespie did not show up in court in Newtownards and Judge Mark Hamill issued a warrant for his arrest.

A non-molestation order is defined by Women's Aid as a an order aimed at preventing "your partner or ex-partner from using or threatening violence against you or your child, or intimidating, harassing or pestering you."

Gillespie was told to steer clear of the north Down area, but he had been charged with being in the "vicinity of the Hamilton Road."

Gillespie has penned a book entitled 'How not to be a Football Millionaire' chronicling his journey from Manchester United prospect in the mid 1990s to his bankruptcy in 2010. He was a member of the legendary Class of 92 but was not included in last year's film, a slight which elicited this witty response from him.

Gillespie retired last year at the end of his third season with Longford Town.
