Arsenal will enter 2016 in a very promising position in the Premier League despite a surprise 4-0 beating at the hands of Southampton on St.Stephen's Day, as only Leicester City sit above them in the table with one match remaining in 2015.

While players like Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, and Laurent Koschielny have clearly upped their game this season, injuries have meant that those players are heavily relied upon to produce week in, week out, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla missing time out.

Now it seems that Arsene Wenger will add some depth to the midfield position, which will no doubt be music to Arsenal fans' ears, in the form of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny, as reported by The Telegraph's Jeremy Wilson:

Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal to sign the Basle midfielder Mohamed Elneny shortly after the transfer window opens on Friday.

Negotiations are ongoing over a potential £5 million transfer, that could rise to around £7 million, but the talks have so far been positive and the expectation is that there will be little difficulty in agreeing personal terms with Elneny.

Elneny is a defensive midfielder who has received a lot of attention for his performances for FC Basel this campaign, and his signing will no doubt be welcomed with open arms judging by the need for more bodies in that position.
