We suspect the wider world wasn't fully aware of this but Aston Villa run a goal of the month competition on their website. Running an internal goal of the month competition is a fairly ambitious undertaking for a club like Villa who aren't exactly swimming in goals, and haven't been for many years now.

The club are shipping a fair bit of a slagging now for being forced to cancel the competition for October, for the very good reason that they didn't score any goals in October. It should be added that they only played three games in October, so while its hardly good, it's not the risible humiliation its being painted as.

Indeed, their goal of the month competition for September was hardly the most competitive of affairs given that the club only managed one goal in September.

Meanwhile, Andreas Weimann's goal from last Saturday is hot favourite to win their goal of the month competition for November.
