David Bentley togged out for Crossmaglen Rangers in a challenge match last night against Silverbridge as part of a documentary made with AIB. He put in a surprisingly impressive display (details here).

Former Armagh keeper and current Crossmaglen keeper Paul Hearty was between the posts last night and observed Bentley at work.

He told us that Bentley, who started at centre-forward, was a quick learner and showed a surprising aptitude for the game.

Bentley also expressed amazement at the lifestyle of GAA players, training as hard as they do while holding down a 40 hours a week job in most cases. He also echoed much of what Stephen Hunt said about the importance of rest days to soccer players. 'Even going for a game of golf the day before matchday is frowned upon,' Hearty reported him saying.

Hearty spoke to us about all this and much more including Bentley's tale of the time Robbie Keane brought the whole Spurs squad to Coppers.
