Bad News For Mignolet As Reports In Germany Claim Liverpool Have Signed A New Keeper

Bad news for the Belgian, good news for Liverpool fans.

While Simon Mignolet's form has taken an upward turn since he was handed a contract extension earlier in the season, it is quite clear that Liverpool are going to need to sign a new first choice goalkeeper if they want to be challenging for the title in the near future.

Well, reports that emerged from German sports site Kicker.de today suggest a deal to do just that is all set to be completed.

The Bundesliga is packed with a lot of goalkeeping talent, so it is no surprise that Jurgen Klopp is reported to be doing a bit of shopping in the league he knows so well, and it seems that Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius is the one who he believes is ready to do a job between the sticks at Anfield.

Kicker are reporting that despite Karius signing an extension with Mainz until 2018 last year, he has an £8m release clause that Liverpool are happy to meet having already agreed personal terms with the player.

Mainz is the club Klopp managed before Dortmund, and Karius has had an excellent season which saw him nominated for the Bundesliga team of the season, eventually losing out to Manuel Neuer - no great shame there - so the Liverpool boss would have know about him due to his links to the club.

It may not be a 'big name' signing, but it could turn out to be a great bit of business for the Reds.

In other Liverpool-Bundesliga news, former Hoffenheim man has been speaking about the potential arrival of Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze, and he's all for it:

I know Gotze well from my time in Germany, when I played with Hoffenheim against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern.

He has incredible qualities in attack.

He would fit in well with us, and he will surely help us with his class also.

We'll wait and see if official confirmation follows in the coming days.
