The Balls.ie Fantasy Football League Round-up: Week 1

With over 3,250 players in the Balls.ie fantasy league, the competition is fierce. One week in and some will no doubt have already given up after some horrific performances, and others will think they are destined for the overall top 100, but what really matters is who is setting the pace in the Balls.ie league.

What you should have done:

You really should have foreseen Eric Dier's fantastic Spurs debut. Come on, you knew of his track record in the Sporting Lisbon reserves. And as for Saido Berahino, what were you doing leaving him out? You knew West Brom were full of goals.

Seriously though, fantastic weeks for Alan McGregor and James Chester of Hull will reward those who saw that coming, also known as Hull City fans. Raheem Sterling and Aaron Ramsey are two of the most popular midfield choices this season and have delivered early, while complete bargain Gylfi Sigurdsson didn't read the script for Louis Van Gaal's first game in charge.

Hats off to Gareth Kehoe and his Linden Village FC side, who had a brilliant first week and are now sitting pretty in 1st place and seven points clear of his closest rival.

Gareth saw the vision in Saido Berahino and deserves credit for that, as well as his decision to pack the midfield area with stars at the expense of a reliable keeper. We wouldn't trust that bench in the long run though! Nonetheless, 94 points is an excellent return.

Propping Up The Table:

This has caused a bit of controversy in Balls Towers, as the bottom two sides in the league after gameweek 1 are both 'Irish players only' teams, and we can't criticise anyone who was willing to take on that challenge. So, we have instead decided that the lowest ranking normal team shall be officially bottom of the league, and that honor goes to 'Joe O' and his "D&D" team who had an absolute shocker.

While not the worst team on paper, you know things are bad when Skrtel and Distain are your highest scoring players, however, Joe deserves every bit of bad luck he got for making Roberto Soldado captain. A miserable 21 points in week 1. Must do better, Joe.

Check back next week for another round-up of the intense spectacle that is the Balls.ie fantasy league. Will we be stroking your ego after a blistering performance? Or will we be laughing at your misery? It all depends on the weekend's Premier League action.
