Barcelona are an absolute mess.

Long seen as the pinnacle of club football, the Catalan side have gone from the best in the world to an absolute shambles in the space of only a few years.

Their spending in recent times has been reckless to say the least. Not only have they dropped huge transfer fees on flops such as Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, but the wages they have been paying are astronomical.

It is little surprise that they are now in dire straits financially, with the departure of Lionel Messi the most obvious example of that in action.

Barcelona had signed a number of players in recent months, but they had not actually been registered up until this point due to the club's financial issues. There were doubts as to whether the likes of Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia would even be able to play for the club this season.

However, the issue has now been resolved.

Barcelona have finally managed to register Depay, Garcia, and Rey Manaj for the upcoming season after Gerard Pique agreed to take a 'sizeable' pay cut on his salary.

In a statement, the club also revealed that they were in talks with Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets about cutting their wages.

Barcelona is able to register Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj to play in the Spanish Liga de Futbol Profesional. This has been made possible thanks to an agreement with Gerard Pique whereby the Barca second captain's salary has been substantially reduced.

This means that all of the first-team players will be available for selection by Ronald Koeman for this Sunday's opening Liga fixture against Real Sociedad.

The club is also continuing to work with two of the other captains, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, to adapt their salaries to the club's current situation. It must be noted that both players are totally and utterly willing to cooperate.

They have also yet to register Sergio Aguero, who has been ruled out of action for up to ten weeks due to injury.

While that trio will hardly be short of a few pound, the fact that they had to take a pay cut just so the club could register some free transfers is an absolute farce.
