El Mundo Deportivo have reported today that Barcelona may be interested in Celtic's Georgios Samaras.

The article in the Spanish daily newspaper suggests that Gerardo 'Tata' Martino, Barcelona's Argentine manager, is interested in adding a 'plan B' to his team's repertoire, and that Samaras might be just the man to take on that role.

The article goes on to say that Barcelona are missing somebody in the 'Larsson role', who can bide his time, come off the bench and change a game if needs be. Up to this point Gerard Pique has been called upon to play the number 9 role when Barca have been in a jam, but perhaps a more traditional option will be added in the January transfer window.

El Mundo Deportivo, a Barcelona publication, profile a few potential options including Miroslav Klose, David Trezeguet and Roque Santa Cruz, but they say of Celtic's Greek striker...

"The Greek, Georgios Samaras (28 years, 1.93m) would be the Larsson of 2013 due to the reference to Celtic, although with a much lower profile than the Swedish idol. His contract expires in 2014 and that makes it possible, but Celtic are really keen to renew. He would not be able to play Champions League with another team."

The newspaper are even conducting a poll amongst it's readers on the issue, and Samaras is currently edging out Klose by 2%.
