Bastian Schweinsteiger's Birthday Present From Jose Mourinho Was A Kick Aimed Squarely At His Balls

Jose Mourinho's decluttering of the Man Utd dressing room cares not for experience or World Cup winners medals.

According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho today told Bastian Schweinsteiger to clear out his locker in the Man Utd first-team dressing room. The World Cup winner has been told to go and train with the reserves while looking for a new club: bringing a fairly abrupt and ignominious end to a brief United career.

Oh, and today also marks his 32nd birthday. So not the greatest present from his new manager.

In fairness, Schweinsteiger never got going at United, and has been blighted by injuries since arriving under Louis Van Gaal's command last season.

The Mail report claimed that senior players were disappointed by Schweinsteiger's failure to attend games while injured last season. (In fairness, he wasn't exactly missing the most thrilling of spectacles).

The Mail also claim that both Milan clubs are believed to be interested in Schweinsteiger, although United may be forced to partly subsidise his wages to facilitate the move.

Mourinho usually likes to keep a relatively small squad, and with Paul Pogba on his way, the German midfielder is evidently deemed surplus to requirements. A host of youngsters are expected to be farmed out on loan, including Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett and James Wilson.

It's fair to say that Schweinsteiger's family are unimpressed with Mourinho's treatment of him:
