Bebé's Latest Comments On His Man Utd Move Make The Whole Situation Look Farcical

Actually, we should say makes the whole situation look 'even more' farcical because it was already incredibly dodgy looking, but the former Man United striker who is currently playing for Rayo Vallecano has revealed to Spanish publication Sport that he didn't even like football and never wanted to leave his orphanage in Portugal.

Bebe is looked back on as a bad joke of a signing by Alex Ferguson, as the winger cost a staggering £7.4m to be plucked from the lower divisions of Portuguese football, and the latest comments on his time at Manchester United will do that idea no harm at all.

In fact, Bebe was so out of his element at Old Trafford that when Fergie told him to 'warm up', he stood still with no idea what to do.

I had eight years in an orphanage. There, I did not like football. But my friends always wanted to play and I had no choice but to join in. At first I thought it was a joke [when he was told of United’s interest], but then I saw it was true and understood that it was a unique opportunity.

I remember being on the bench and Fergie told me: ‘Warm up’. I just stood still for a few seconds, before I knew what to do.

Immediately there were rumours of Bebe having played a 'homeless World Cup' just months before signing for Old Trafford, and that was in fact true, but the man himself has now revealed that he played in the tournament as a joke, and when he was approached to be signed, he didn't want to leave his orphanage.

They asked me to go to the Homeless World Cup, and I accepted.

I went there as a joke, but scored 40 goals in six matches. I didn’t want to sign for a team because I did not want to have to leave the orphanage.

It was difficult to leave. But I carried on going back there to sleep whenever I could.

40 goals in six matches? Take the foot off the gas maybe?

An already ridiculous situation gets even more ridiculous by knowing that he didn't even want to leave the orphanage that he called home, but when asked if he regretted his move to Manchester he explained that he did not, because he learned to be a man at Old Trafford.

Well, at least someone learned something other than the lengths at which Manchester United will go to in order to keep Jorge Mendes sweet.
