When mounting his opposition to the SDLP's proposal to hold a joint reception in Belfast for the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland teams, Jim Rodgers of the UUP noted that Dublin was not holding a similar reception.
It looks like it will now. Labour's Dermot Lacey told Suzanne Breen of the Belfast Telegraph that he will be proposing a joint reception at a Dublin City Council meeting next Monday.
He says his proposal is inspired by the SDLP motion.
There are 16 parties on Dublin City Council but I'm still hopeful that the motion will be approved. I don't think there's anything controversial about it so I'm not anticipating any objections.
I'm not a nationalist at all. I fully respect everyone's differences. I see this as an all-Island concept and not an all-Ireland one.
Declan Boyle, the SDLP councillor behind the original motion, said he finds it 'sad and embarrassing' that the joint reception will be held in Dublin while politics had gotten in the way in Belfast.
It looks like Dublin will have approved the motion and invited the teams while we're still squabbling about it up here.
