One of the few things that potentially threatened to disrupt Manchester City's march to the Premier League title was the long-term injury that struck down Benjamin Mendy in September.

Having started the season incredibly well, Mendy has ended up missing almost all of the season.

In one regard, his absence has been a blessing; the 23-year-old French full-back has been the source of some great Tweets throughout the season.

Never afraid to grant a more personal glimpse of the life of a professional footballer, he has been equally quick to disturb any notion Manchester City have of speaking on his behalf.

After their rather routine 3-0 win against Arsenal last night, it was mooted today that Mendy could be set for a return to the City set-up in time for this year's second Manchester derby; that game due to take place in just over a month.

Such was the impression we could gather from Mendy's own comments on the club website.

Only, it would now appear that Mendy himself doesn't recall any such conversation taking place.

Urging calm consideration so he can arrive back in top condition, the full-back surely has one eye on the upcoming World Cup also.

It is not certain how Manchester City will respond to Mendy making them look a little foolish, but we love it anyway.
