Bolton Wanderers are set to offer veteran striker Eidur Gudjohnsen a short-term contract which would see him back in English football for the first time since he left Stoke in 2011.

Gudjohnsen, who is currently a free agent, has been training with Bolton in order to maintain his fitness, and is set to be offered a permanent deal provided he can complete a match for the Bolton U21s against Middlesbrough tonight, having clearly impressed Neil Lennon on the training pitch.

Gudjohnsen first came to prominence in the English game with two impressive seasons for Bolton after he signed for them in 1998, he then went on to Chelsea where he enjoyed six successful seasons before signing with Barcelona and eventually winning the UEFA Champions League.
