The contest is over, the hardest man in football has been found. It's 51 year-old Bosnian goalkeeper Duško Krtalica. During a game in a Sarajevo suburb, our hero Duško felt a pain in the back of his head. Thinking it was a headache brought on by hitting his head against the goalpost, he played on. Quite well as it happens too, conceding just one goal.

After the game, he found his arm was a little stiff and he was having trouble speaking. So he headed off to a Sarajevo hospital. Doctors ran a few X-rays and found that Krtalica had a 9mm bullet in his head. He underwent emergency neurosurgery and the bullet was removed. Now this raises a few questions. Namely, what on earth is Krtalica's head made of that he didn't notice being shot? Having been shot, what sort of a hero is he, that he just walked it off? And who would shoot a 51 year-old man in the head in the middle of an amateur game?

Well a police investigation found that three weddings took place on the street in question that day. And staying true to the Balkan tradition of celebrating everything with gunfire, some of the guests took to the street with a handgun. It appears one of the stray bullets hit Duško Krtalica. In the head. Now think of that next time you see Ronaldo or Drogba go for an extra roll on the turf.
