Brendan Rodgers Is Supposedly Lining Up An Interesting Alternative To Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling's contract talks seem to be a bit of a mystery. First he was being offered £70k but wanted £100k, then he couldn't believe that Glen Johnson was going to get more than him, and now he's apparently being offered £100k but wants the £150k that Daniel Sturridge is on.

All of that has led to a shelving of contract talks until the summer and Liverpool fans should probably be a bit worried. Yes, Sterling has over two years left on his deal but he does have a hold over Liverpool this summer if he wants to engineer a move elsewhere.

And, according to the Telegraph, Liverpool are planning for Sterling's departure just in case it does come to pass. The man lined up to replace Sterling? A carbon copy of Sterling but a few years too late. Yes, England's last saviour from the wing, Theo Walcott, is being earmarked for a move to Anfield.

The Telegraph rarely publish something from nothing so there's a good chance there is something to this. More than likely that something is Walcott's agent giving Wenger a 'use him or loose him' ultimatum. The fact that there's been suggestions that Walcott is looking for a pay hike may also have something to do with it.

However, if Sterling does leave, Walcott would be a viable alternative. Granted, he may not be one that Liverpool fans are universally enthused about but this is not the first time that he has been linked with Anfield. Rodgers is thought to be an admirer and Walcott was a Liverpool fan growing up so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

So Liverpool fans, if you needed a replacement for Sterling, would you be happy with the Arsenal man, dodgy groins and all?
