Bruno Fernandes was fuming at referee Michael Oliver following Manchester United's dire 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham on Saturday.

On the back of a decent string of results in recent weeks, Erik ten Hag's side were brought back down to earth with a bump as the Cottagers dominated them at Old Trafford.

After Calvin Bassey's 65th-minute opener, it looked like a Harry Maguire goal had rescued a point for the hosts late on, before Alex Iwobi scored the winner for Fulham in the eighth minute of injury time.

It could have been worse for United as Maguire could easily have been sent off in the first half for a shocking challenge on Sasa Lukic, which Oliver only deemed worthy of a yellow card.

Bruno Fernandes furious at ref following Man United defeat

United skipper Fernandes had clearly forgotten this by the time the full-time whistle went, as he could be seen furiously remonstrating with the ref, presumably some decisions that went against the Red Devils.

Fernandes was then joined in the protest by Ten Hag, as United were left licking their wounds from one of their worst performances of the Dutchman's time in charge.

If Fernandes is looking for people to blame, he could probably start by taking a look at himself. His productivity this season is way down on previous campaigns, and he hasn't scored in the Premier League since United won the reverse fixture against Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage back in November.

His total goal tally for the season is in the league is now three in 25 appearances and he has only provided five assists to go along with that.

Man United's winning streak comes to an end

United's recent four-game Premier League winning streak had given supporters hope that they had turned a corner but the performance on Saturday is evidence that there is a lot more work to do.

They weren't helped by the absence of Rasmus Hojlund, who has been on fire in front of goal lately, while Marcus Rashford put in a lethargic performance that has been consistent with his overall season.

With Aston Villa beating Nottingham Forest 4-2 at the same time, defeat for United looks like it could be a massive blow for the hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
