Callum Robinson's career was in a bit of a funk prior to this campaign.

Only 12 months on from looking like he was about to establish himself as a key player in the Ireland setup, he has struggled to get into the team in 2022. Not only that, but his club form has also dropped off.

The forward was a bit-part player for West Brom in the second half of last season, with the club moving him on during the summer.

In saying, he had started in a decent fashion since his move to Cardiff City. The 27-year old had registered two goals and three assists in his last eight appearances prior to this afternoon's Welsh derby against Swansea City.

However, just when it looked like he was finally building some momentum, a moment of madness has now cost him.

Callum Robinson started for Cardiff in the game at the Swansea.com Stadium, although his contribution would only last around six minutes.

The Irishman was whistled for a fairly innocuous foul early in the game, but after Swansea defender Ben Cabango attempted to grab the ball away from him, he would stupidly throw it towards his opponent's face. It wasn't exactly a venomous toss of the ball, but it was always likely to be punished having taken place right in front of the assistant referee.

After some protestation from the Swansea players, including his international teammate Michael Obafemi, the red card was produced.

It has been a relatively difficult season for Cardiff City up to this point, sitting just above the relegation spots in the Championship and currently without a permanent manager having parted ways with Steve Morison.

For Callum Robinson, this could be a big blow having previously looked as though he had discovered the form that has deserted him for much of 2022.
