Pedro Caixinha would have sent his Rangers side out at Hampden Park on Sunday hoping for a performance that would secure their spot in the Betfred Cup Final for another crack at Celtic - who won 4-2 in the other semi against Hibs on Saturday - but instead had to endure a nightmare of a day.

After a frustrating first half, he saw his side fall behind early in the second and having been irritated by referee Steven McLean all day his frustration boiled over and he was sent off just after the hour mark.

It finished 2-0 and Motherwell celebrated reaching the cup final while those associated with Rangers were left to asses the damage.

Former Rangers player Charlie Adam took to Twitter to give his opinion on how the club can move forward, and it has not gone down well as both Rangers and Celtic fans alike have found issue with his plan.

Six of Rangers' starting XI and two of their substitutes on the day were British players which makes it a bizarre thing to say from the start.

The fact that very few of those eight British players can say they played well in the semi-final even more so.

The Tweets came flying in, and Adam took stick from all angles.

And yes, SimpsonsSPFL might very well be the best account on Twitter.

Are players like Bruno Alves and Alfredo Morelos - who already has 8 goals in a blue jersey - really the problem? Surely more quality players would be a more accurate thing to wish for?

The pressure is continuing to mount of Caixinha, who would likely be even less impressed with Adam's opinion than those who voiced their displeasure.
