Having started this season like a house on fire, Chiedozie Ogbene has found the going a lot more difficult over the last few months. Not only did he have a short layoff due to injury, but he also found it difficult to rediscover his form when he was on the pitch.

He will be hoping that last night will prove to be a catalyst as he attempt to put those problems behind him.

The Rotherham United winger scored his first Championship goal since December in last night's draw at Swansea City, putting in a very good overall performance.

The draw opened up a six-point gap between Rotherham and the relegation places.

Chiedozie Ogbene opes up on effects of transfer speculation

Of course, Swansea are a club that have often been mentioned in the same breath as Chiedozie Ogbene in recent times. They have been strongly linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland since last summer, although a deal never materialised.

Ogbene's contract is up at the end of the season, with many expecting Rotherham to cash in on him at some point this season after a breakdown in discussions over a new deal.

While it seems as though his time at the New York Stadium is drawing to a close, the player is still very much committed to the cause. Speaking to the BBC after last night's game, he admitted that the transfer speculation in recent months has had an effect on him.

Playing for this club means a lot to me and the gaffer sat me down to say I was trying too hard.

You can do damage but he made it clear to play calm and free.

That helped me massively because no matter how many games you have players can tense up...

I would like to say it didn’t (affect him) but I’m a human being so I’m sure it did.

When you’re at home, not playing well, questioning yourself, the future uncertainty can play on your mind.

I hadn’t played well for a couple of games but I’m hoping the performances show I really want to be here and care for the club.

Chiedozie Ogbene will now be hoping to lead Rotherham to safety in the months ahead, while he will also have an eye on Ireland's Euro qualifier against France next month.

Hopefully he can get back into top form ahead of that game at the Aviva.
