Chris Coleman has been sacked as manager of Sunderland.

The club announced in a statement that Coleman along with assistant manager Kit Symons have both been released from their contracts.

Sunderland AFC announces that manager Chris Coleman and his assistant Kit Symons have been released from their contracts.

The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Chris and Kit for their tireless efforts in what has been a hugely disappointing season for everyone involved with the club.

The club is unable to make further comment at this time.

Sunderland were relegated from the Championship last weekend. The club sits bottom of English football's second tier, seven points inside the relegation zone with a game to play.

Coleman took over from Simon Grayson as manager back in November. Just days earlier, he had resigned as manager of Wales.
