Shamrock Rovers announced on Friday that Conor Grant has moved to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 16-year-old had just joined Rovers' U17 squad in January from Malahide Utd.

In a club statement, Rovers called Grant, "A fantastic elegant footballer who excited everyone at the club we have no doubt he will go on to have more success in the game."

Academy director Shane Robinson added:

Conor first came to our attention playing for the DDSL. A talented individual with the ability to go by his opponent with a drop of the shoulder. He has attributes we are looking to bring into our first team and has been a pleasure to work with in the short time he’s been here. We wish him all the best in his new adventure.

Grant joins Wednesday after a second consecutive season of playoff heartbreak for the club. Carlos Carvalhal's side lost on penalties to Huddersfield in the playoff semi-final after finishing fourth in the Championship this season.
