Brighton added to their Irish production line in recent days, with Mark O'Mahony making his Premier League debut during the draw against Burnley last weekend.

The Cork native would come off the bench late on during the fixture at Turf Moor, with this being his first appearance in the division since joining the club in January of 2023.

A 19-year old forward, O'Mahony's first taste of senior football came with Cork City. He made 11 appearances in the League of Ireland First Division in the 2022 season.

Considering the progress he has made in such a short period of time, his career looks to very much be on the up.

Cork youngster to follow Evan Ferguson example after EPL debut

Brighton have brought through quite a few Irish players in recent times. Evan Ferguson, Aaron Connolly, and Andy Moran have all made Premier League appearances after coming through the club's academy over the last few seasons.

Mark O'Mahony will now look to follow that example, with a sustained run in the first team a goal in the near future.

Speaking on the Albion Unlimited podcast, the teenager said he need only look at teammate Evan Ferguson to see what is possible for young players at Brighton.

When you look at what Ev has done, coming in as an 18-year-old, especially being from Ireland, it shows that if you get a chance you can take it. I have looked up to him a lot over the last year, he has done very well for himself, he’s a good role model to have.

It’s good when you hear people talking about you but I try not to take too much notice of it, I just want to do my job here, keep getting better with the team and getting more opportunities. So it’s good to have people talk about you but I don’t read too much into it.

Every day I go into training I look at Danny Welbeck, for the career he has had, he’s won Premier Leagues so he’s one I keep my eye on, his first touch, his movement, everything.

And I always looked up to Harry Kane as well, physically, and his goal-scoring is one of the best in the world, he is one I always looked up to but especially over the last five or six years.

First touch is big and you have to improve it as you go up the levels and the age groups, physicality will come with time but the big thing is to get experience, how to deal with it all.

Mark O'Mahony made his Ireland U21 debut last month, coming off the bench during the day 7-0 victory over San Marino. He will be hoping to contribute further for Jim Crawford's side over the remainder of the Euro qualifying campaign.

As for his club football, the lack of jeopardy for Brighton over the remainder of the season could well lead to more first team opportunities over the coming weeks.
